Turbanium. A floor lamp like no other.

The design and subsequent fabrication of this lamp took nearly 8 months from start to finish, but the culmination of the final piece is the physical proof of our determination to ensure there is no compromise on the function or quality of our work. Utilizing a vast selection of gas turbine and bespoke machine parts we created a centerpiece for any room that will be the spark of conversation for years to come. The lamp weighs in at close to 120lbs and near 7 ft tall.

At the base sits a turbine gearbox housing and CNC milled cap plate, filled with dry sand for counterweight and stability. The center tube is turned 7075 tubing, and retains the machined luster and rainbow finish. Further up sits the switch and motor housing which is a Pratt and Whitney R2800 radial engine crank bearing, it in itself supporting a PT6 turboprop shaft with CNC machined shade arms. Inside all of this resides a worm drive gearbox that indirectly spins a custom machined “turbine” at a modest 30-40RPM and uses original NOS compressor blades from a J65 engine; the jet engine that gave flight to aircraft like the F-84 ThunderStreak and XF-104 Starfighter prototypes. A great deal of effort went into designing this mechanism so that no external gears, cables, or wires would be readily visible but such effort was worth it as the turbine provides a unique hum to the lamp when in operation as well as a visual light show. The shade and upper framework comprise of PW100 high pressure stator and power turbine housings and nozzles. A trio of E11 LED Edison bulbs emit a soft glow. All components, aside from the main center tube, are coated in highly durable ceramic finishes to provide long lasting durability.
